Off the Couch

I just got back from my first run since leaving Alaska, and I have the Olympics to thank for it!

I know I should be glued to my television, but watching these athletes seems to push me off of the couch. Does this happen to everyone or just me? I would love to see the global statistics on overall athleticism during and more importantly, immediately following the Olympics. What is it about watching athletes that causes us to want to become athletes?

I think this feeling crosses over to spirituality and leadership as well. Think about it. When we watch, listen to, communicate with great spiritual leaders; we’re pushed to work harder and we practice more. We’re pushed to be greater. We’re pushed to get off of the couch and try!

In my own life, I have found this to be true. In the past couple of months, I have spent a lot of time listening to podcasts like EntreLeadership and Catalyst. The men and women who surround these organizations are athletes in spiritual leadership. I am convinced that by filling my mind with these great resources, I can receive the same results as watching the Olympics: I want to try! I want to be an athlete in spiritual leadership. Therefore, I cannot simply practice, hoping for the best. I must watch and practice so that I may become and accomplished athlete.

QUESTION:
Do the Olympics push you off the couch?

It would… Unfortunately I blew out my acl and tore my meniscus at softball. So I am forced to sit here and watch everyone else! Perhaps post- surgery will allow me to brush up on some resources like the ones you mentioned. My mentor moved away awhile ago and I’ve sort of been coasting. Time to get it in gear!

    • Yikes, rough deal with the injury; but sometimes God does use injuries to settle us and re-focus. Hopefully, you find this to be true! In regards to the podcasts mentioned, I would suggest Catalyst for you as it holds a higher percentage of female leaders than EntreLeadership. Obviously, not that you can’t learn from men; but as a woman in leadership it would be good to hear a good balance of both. Thanks for reading and commenting!
